La Contraparada DWTP

Where your drinking water comes form
 

The drinking water supply in the municipality of Murcia comes from two different sources:

  • Canales del Taibilla Municipal Association (MCT).This supply is provided by 20 points in the territory of Murcia. Basically, it comes from tanks in Espinardo, Cabezo Cortado, Campo de Cartagena and Barqueros.
  • La Contraparada drinking water treatment plant. The main supply for the drinking water to the town, whose source is water from the river basin, supplied via the Tajo-Segura water transfer channel.

Canales del Taibilla Municipal Association (MCT)

Murcia receives its drinking water supply from MCT. The water resources assigned to the town are:

  • All water from the River Taibilla (tributary at the head of the River Segura), and the Tajo-Segura water transfer channel, treated at the Letur, Campotéjar, Sierra de la Espada, La Pedrera, Torrealta and Lorca DWTPs.
  • Supplementary supplies come from the San Pedro I and II, Torrevieja, Águilas and Valdelentisco desalination plants on the coast.

Twenty-five per cent of the town’s drinking water supply comes from the Tajo-Segura water transfer channel, taken from the left side of the post-transfer channel and treated at the La Contraparada DWTP.

The drinking water treatment plant has a nominal treatment capacity of 2,000 m3/h.
